I'm the Senior Manager of the Lung Health National Program for Lung Foundation Australia. This involves working to promote the vital importance of respiratory health and certainly fills my days with lots of activity.
I was a member of the Management Committee of the Aurealis Awards, Australia’s premier speculative fiction literary awards, for more than six years and served a three year term as the President of Fantastic Queensland, an organisation dedicated to providing opportunities for Australian spec-fic writers.
My fiction work has been mainly confined to acquittal reports and business documents but I have had a number of Doctor Who short stories published in various charity anthologies including Perfect Timing (Birth-Pains), Perfect Timing 2 (Painting History), Missing Pieces (Fiction Paradox) and Shelf Life (Tears in Time). My non-Doctor Who short story, the Tenth Life of Sargeant Tom, was included in the 2006 anthology, Journeys of the Mind – an Anthology of Speculative Fiction.
My short story, Renfield’s Wife, was published in the 2011 anthology, Dead Red Heart, and made Ellen Datlow’s Honourable Mention list for the year’s best horror.
Just in time for Christmas 2012 - although these tales can be read all year round - comes a collection of holiday tales twisting tradition called Ain’t No Sanity Clause which features my story, The Twenty-Fifth Day.
This year will be a big one for my writing - with my Sherlock Holmes novel and at least three short stories to be published, and maybe a few more surprises in store.
Marketing and Community Relations – especially in the government and non-profit sectors, community consultation and engagement, issues management, event management, member services, education programs
Community and Stakeholder Management – corporate restructures, international board relations, government and community relations, change management, internal communications
Strategic Planning, Program Development and Implementation – strategic and business plan development, implementation strategy including program analysis, design, pilot and review
Media Relations - more than 15 years media management experience including reactive (natural disasters and crisis management) and proactive (change management, campaign support)
Coming next year
Next year will see my first collection of short stories, A Taste of Lightning, coming from SPECULICIOUS - an imprint of Fringeworks. Speculicious focuses on author-driven projects and involves some great writers.
UK publisher Fringeworks is giving Sherlock Holmes a steampunk make-over, bringing him to life in the first of an ongoing series of novels revisiting the original canon
As part of the series, Conan Doyle's third Sherlock Holmes novel, The Sign of Four, will be re-imagined as The Sign of V by me.
The Sign of V is my first published novel, although I've had a number of short stories published over the years.
As an Australian, I will be bringing an international perspective to the series.
Sign of V will be published later this year.
You can follow the Sign of V Facebook page for release updates, information about the other books in the series, special tidbits, a countdown clock and other pieces of fun and trivia.
